LUNDU:  The InnoWaste 2024 programme, organised by the Ministry of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Sarawak (MPHLG), successfully concluded on Wednesday at the Lundu District Council.

The two-day event, held from October 22 to 23, was part of Sarawak Innovation Month and focused on promoting innovative waste management practices for environmental sustainability.

The event brought together eight local councils, with six councils participating in the InnoWaste Exhibition, where they showcased creative products made from recycled materials.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and Gedong District Council contributed through the InnoWaste Poster Competition due to scheduling constraints.

In addition to the exhibitions, participants attended talks from experts, including a session titled "Plastik dan Mikroplastik: Ancaman Senyap kepada Alam dan Kesihatan Kita" (Plastics and Microplastics: A Silent Threat to Our Environment and Health), and another on "Membina Masa Depan Hijau: Pengurusan Sisa Lestari Luar Bandar Sarawak" (Building a Green Future: Sustainable Waste Management in Rural Sarawak).

A highlight of the programme was the InnoWaste Poster Competition, which saw entries from 16 schools across the region.

Students displayed innovative artwork that repurposed waste materials, demonstrating the importance of recycling and creativity in environmental conservation.

The InnoWaste 2024 programme emphasised collaboration between the public and private sectors, along with local communities, in fostering sustainable waste management and environmental conservation.

The event underscored the importance of reducing waste, conserving resources, and engaging communities in preserving Sarawak's natural environment for future generations.-UKASnews
