The Ministry of Local Government and 20 District Councils in Sarawak was successfully certified MS ISO 9001: 2015 standards on 15 December 2015, and became the first agency in Malaysia to be awarded with the MS ISO 9001:2015. The scope of certification are as follows :-

1. Solid waste management
2. Library services
3. Licensing
4. Enforcement of laws and regulations of Local Authorities
5. Valuation and Referencing
6. Management of office
7. Monitoring ofdevelopment projects
8. Maintenance of infrastructures and public facilities
9. Building control
10. Human resources management
11. Inspectorate
12. Development projects management in the local authorities

The Ministry of Local Government Sarawak and 20 District Councils has continuously improved and enhanced its work processes and procedure since its first certification to MS ISO9001:2008 where back in 2008 in order to enhanced its service delivery to the ratepayers and in line with the State Government transformation initiatives to achieve World Class Civil Service by the year 2020.

Under the stewardship of the former Permanent secretary of the Ministry of Local government and community development Datu Dr Penguang Manggil, the ISO taskforce group and the ISO technical group have worked very hard to ensure that the Ministry and the 20 District councils process owners are continuously enhancing and improving their work processes to meet the requirements of the new 2015 MS ISO standard until we obtained the certification in December last year.

After the SIRIM auditing and certification at the end of 2015, the technical team  reviewed the OFI/recommendations for improvements raised by SIRIM and after a series of workshop with the relevant process owners, the necessary improvements was developed and incorporated into the MS ISO 9001:2015 (version 8) documentation that is Keluaran 8.

The version 8 ( Keluaran 8) is a comprehensive document as it complements version 6 and version 7 where the risk factors identified in the processes and procedures for both the Ministry and the Councils has been addressed in the said documentation. The relevant process owners have taken the necessary actions to address and minimize the risksidentified as required in the standards and with such documentation, it will facilitate smoother implementation and compliance.

The MS ISO 9001:2015 ( version 8) documents was launched and presented to all process owners of the Ministry and the 20 district council secretaries on 29/7/16 at the Mega Hotel by Mr. Bakri Zaini, the new Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Local Government Sarawak. The Permanent Secretary has in his launching speech reminded all process owners to ensure that the all the documented procedures and processes are implemented and complied by all their process owners at all times to avoid Non-Compliance Report (NCR) to be raised during the internal quality Audit (IQA) or during the Surveillance Audit and also to ensure that the Ministry and 20 District councils MS ISO 9001:2015 certification could be sustained and maintained. The SIRIM Surveillance Audit is expected to be conducted sometime end of October or early November 2016.
